A yoga teacher training program will teach you more than just physical poses. In addition, you will learn yoga philosophy, mindfulness, pranayama, and anatomy. You will explore the Yoga Sutras and discover that true yoga practice has little to do with asanas, like yoga postures. You will understand the distinctions between vinyasa yoga, Ashtanga yoga, hatha yoga, yin yoga, yoga Nidra, and tantra yoga, as well as all other types of yoga!
It will take you further than even your favorite yoga classes could have and give you a lot more than just the title yoga instructor.
Important Factors to consider for Selecting a Yoga Teacher Training Program
The School’s Experience
When you want to take a Yoga teacher training (YTT) course, the school’s experience can greatly impact how much you learn. Make sure the school you pick has been open for at least five years. As the only thing you need to open a school for yoga teacher training is an ERYT-200 and two years of teaching, you don’t need to do anything else. Because of this, there are now a lot of new YTT schools.
Due to tough competition, these schools have changed how they market themselves. Some schools that have only been around for a few years have a much better online presence than those that have been around for ten or twenty years. People are being led astray in this way. So make sure you do a lot of research before you decide on a school.
Teachers’ Basic Experience
Your teachers will be very important in this process, which is not a big surprise. They will be your role model and inspiration for years, so this is another important thing to consider before signing up for a YTT course. The teachers are the best thing about a Yoga Teacher Training School that gives yoga instructor certification. If you don’t learn how to teach well, this Yoga certification isn’t worth much.
Look for schools with a senior teacher who has been teaching for at least 5 years. Also, ensure you have a lot of time and chances to teach while on the course. The curriculum should cover a lot of ground and cover everything. All of this will ensure that you learn about the different types of yoga and, more importantly, how to teach them to others.
How Many Students Graduated From This School?
When choosing a school for your Yoga Teacher Training certification, it is important to determine how many students have graduated from that school. Check to see how many students can sign up for each class. It would help if you tried to take classes with a medium or small number of people to get enough attention from the teachers. This will also allow you to get to know your classmates better.
It will most significantly enable teachers to provide the most individualized attention possible. A smaller group will enable you to truly get to know your classmates and the primary instructor, something you will remember for the rest of your life since you will spend close to a month with them.
Yoga Styles
Teaching asanas differently is much better than sticking to one style. Instead of getting training to copy a specific system or style, you should look for a school that gives you the space and tools you need to learn how to teach yoga in a way that fits the needs of the students in front of you.
