Yoga Philosophy & History of Yoga
Yoga philosophy serves as the foundation for understanding the practices and principles of yoga. Rooted in ancient Indian traditions, yoga is more than just a physical exercise; it encompasses a complete lifestyle aimed at achieving harmony between the mind, body, and spirit. The birthplace of yoga, India, holds a treasure trove of knowledge, including texts like the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, which outline the eight limbs. These teachings emphasize ethical conduct, meditation, and self-discipline as pathways to enlightenment, much like the serene atmosphere found at Agonda Beach, which reflects the principles of peace and wellness inherent in practice.
Throughout our 500-hour yoga training and Yoga Teacher Training in Goa, you will explore traditional yoga teachings that have shaped the practice over millennia. By delving into the history and evolution, you will gain a deeper appreciation for its transformative power. This exploration will help you connect more profoundly with the practice and convey its significance to your future students.
Patanjali Yoga Sutra
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is a pivotal text in the study of philosophy, outlining the core principles and practices that define the yoga journey, including Surya Namaskar. Comprised of 196 aphorisms, the Sutras provide a systematic approach to understanding the eight limbs of yoga, which include ethical guidelines, physical postures, breath control, sensory withdrawal, concentration, meditation, and ultimate liberation (Samadhi).
By studying the limbs of yoga, you will gain insights into how these practices interconnect to foster personal growth and self-awareness, similar to experiences found at a yoga retreat. Understanding the Yoga Sutras will enhance your grasp of the philosophical aspects of yoga, allowing you to teach with greater depth and authenticity. This knowledge will empower you to guide your students on their own paths toward enlightenment.
