Syllabus for 200 Hour Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training
There are six series to the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga teacher training. Here on 200hour Ashtanga yoga teacher Training, we focus on the first: The Primary Series. The teacher leads the class as a whole through the series of postures sometimes stopping to break down instruction or focus on a particular pose.
Ashtanga Primary Series physical practice
Here, on the Mahi Yoga 200 Hour Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training course we encourage students to experience the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Primary series in its totality. By feeling and experiencing the practice students become aware of each posture as well as the meditational quality of the practice and breath.
We promote inclusion for all within our yoga school and so we spend time guiding our students to see each person’s Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga practice as an individual. We guide modification, use of props and hands on adjustment where appropriate. Students practice to their capacity. Increasing the practice intensity as their bodies become stronger and more flexible.
Students will go through in detail each of the elements of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga teacher training, including rules of sequencing, pranayama, chanting and dristi.
Ashtanga Vinyasa Alignment Theory for injury prevention and adjustment
In Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga asana clinics we analyze each student individually so that we might give appropriate asana or modification both within the Ashtanga Primary Series and also outside of it as specific exercises that will correct physical, mental or other levels of imbalance over time.
Using an alignment approach with the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga training makes it more accessible to the majority of the population and thus increases the chance for building a class following as well as helping practitioners stay healthy and injury free.
For the correction of imbalances or work with people with disabilities we teach students how to modify poses, correct use of yoga props and how to give appropriate physical hands on adjustment.

Practice is the best way to learn and so our teaching methodology classes are highly hands on and practical. Only by experiencing can a yoga teacher really be authentic. We guide students through the four tools of teaching: Instruction, observation, Demonstration and Hand’s on Adjustment. Students begin actively teaching in this way right from the beginning. We give our students vital advice on classroom management techniques, structure, sequencing and organization of classes. We raise confidence levels by creating a safe space and encouraging our students through specific activities. Each day our Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga teacher training students practice actively the specific skills our teachers have taught to them and will also practice giving and receiving feedback from both teachers and peers.

Anatomy of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga
Anatomy is instructed from an Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga point of view. Our teachers give a very practical presentation of the subject. Emphasizing that students explore body alignment through their own yoga practice. The theoretical understanding of the skeletal and muscular system will deepen as students learn the bio mechanics of the body in anatomy.
The Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga course begins at the basics of joints, muscles and skeleton. Allowing plenty of time for students to explore and understand. Then apply that knowledge practically when they modify or adjust a student practice.

Meditation allows the mind to become still, to allow the practitioner to watch the self with no conflict and to be free from the prison of the mind. It is a process which helps to calm the mind, produce clear thought, stress relief, energy increase, and lifts the spirit creating a positive outlook which in turn has benefits on the physical body too.
The styles of meditation offered on our course syllabus vary greatly, we teach both active and inactive styles, allowing the student to connect with a style that really suits them. They include; Chakra Meditations, Kundalini Meditations, Third Eye Meditations, Sufi Meditations, Tantra Meditations, Mind to No Mind Meditations, Intensive Breath Meditations, Sound Meditations and Silent Meditations. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Pranayama, Kriyas, Chanting & Mantra
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga begins with the Ujjai breath and it is here we begin our teachings. We also cover a variety of cleansing techniques for the general wellbeing of any yogi. Finally our teachers give in-depth instruction and explanation of the opening and closing mantras of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system. Students will practice the instruction of all the above mentioned techniques.
